       Why Use

4. National Electrical Code (NEC) Online

       Why Use 

  • Official electrical safety code used across the United States.

  • Students in electrical and HVAC programs can rely on it to learn current standards, wiring practices, and compliance requirements.

  • Using the NEC ensures training aligns with national regulations, prepares students for licensing exams, and builds confidence for real-world job sites where safety and compliance are critical.

       How to Use

  • Go to NFPA NEC Online @ https://www.nfpa.org/NEC 

  • Select the free access option and browse the code by chapter or topic.

  • Use the search function to look up specific standards (e.g., wiring methods, grounding, equipment installation).



5. HVACR Online Reference Library (ESCO Institute) 

       Why Use

  • The HVACR Online Reference Library provides free trade manuals, training packages, and open educational resources (OER) designed specifically for heating, ventilation, air conditioning, and refrigeration programs.

  • Students can use it to learn industry standards, troubleshooting methods, and technical skills directly aligned with certification exams and workplace requirements.

  • It ensures training is based on recognized, up-to-date materials from trusted trade education providers.

       How to Use

  • Browse the available manuals and training packages and download open educational resources from SkillsCommons.

  • Use the materials to study system design, safety practices, and diagnostic procedures.

Why Use

  • SkillsCommons is a free national repository of open educational resources (OER) created for workforce development and trade programs.

  • Students can access training manuals, course modules, simulations, and instructional videos across construction, electrical, HVAC, manufacturing, and safety.

  • It offers industry-aligned, peer-reviewed materials that enhance hands-on learning, prepare students for certification exams, and support lifelong career skills.

       How to Use

  • Use the search bar to enter keywords like HVAC safety, construction codes, or welding training, and filter results by subject or resource type.

  • Download free manuals, modules, and videos to support coursework, lab practice, and exam preparation.

7. Open Educational Resources (OER Commons)

       Why to Use

  • OER Commons is a free digital library of open educational resources (OER).

  • Students can access textbooks, training modules, lesson plans, and multimedia materials across trades and general education.
